Arts Mansfield is proud to announce the return of the Three Faces Portrait Prize in 2026, continuing its celebration of local identity, artistic excellence and community connection.
The 2026 Prize introduces a refreshed structure. For the first time, the competition will feature one category, welcoming artists aged over 18 years and working in any medium — including painting, sculpture, photography and more.
From the Expressions of Interest process, three artists will be selected to compete. Each finalist will create a portrait of a recognised identity from the Mansfield district, highlighting the people who shape and define our region.
The 2026 Prize will culminate in two major public events at the Delatite Hotel:
The Reveal
Thursday 3 September 2026A cocktail-style evening introducing the three selected artists and the ‘mystery’ sitter. Artists will present their preliminary concepts and be officially photographed with the sitter, marking the beginning of their creative journey.
The Unveiling
Thursday 15 October 2026A celebratory dinner event where the completed portraits will be formally unveiled. The winning work will be selected by the Mansfield Shire Mayor and the Director/Curator of Benalla Art Gallery.
Prizes
$2,000 Acquisitive Prize — proudly sponsored by Mansfield Shire Council
Two Runner-Up Prizes of $250 each
The acquisitive prize-winning portrait will become part of the growing Three Faces collection owned by the Mansfield Shire Council, contributing to an evolving visual record of Mansfield’s community leaders and identities.
Arts Mansfield President Emma McPherson said the 2026 format strengthens the Prize’s focus on artistic excellence while maintaining its strong community heart.
“The Three Faces Portrait Prize is about more than portraiture — it’s about storytelling, connection and recognising the individuals who contribute to the fabric of Mansfield. We are excited to open the competition to all mediums in 2026.”
Expressions of Interest are now open, with further details to be announced via Arts Mansfield’s website and social media channels.
