Steiner Ceramics Classes

Steiner School Mansfield are very excited to offer two ceramic classes for adults again this year:  HAND BUILDING - Monday evenings 6-9 pm Learn to make hand-built teapots using textured clay slab techniques in a practical, hands-on 6-week course.

 Discover the magic of applying texture to clay, casting in plaster to make your own unique teapot set. Learn new hand-building techniques to ‘throw’ textured clay slabs, including coiling, pinching and clay molds. Explore creative skills to design and make options for handles and spouts and lids.Learn and understand glazing, development and testing. Participate and learn kiln loading and operation.  WHEEL THROWING - Wednesday evenings 6-9pm Whether you're new to pottery or have some prior experience with the wheel, this course is designed to introduce you to the mesmerizing art of wheel throwing. Throughout this course, you'll learn the foundational techniques of centring, pulling, and shaping clay on the wheel. We'll start with the basics, including getting to know your equipment and preparing your clay.

As you progress, you'll explore creating various forms, from classic cylinders to bowls and even more intricate shapes. You will be guided you step by step, with hands on demonstration, helping you troubleshoot and refine your skills. You'll also learn about the importance of trimming and finishing to achieve the desired proportions and details in your pieces.

 By the end of this course, you'll have a solid foundation in wheel throwing and a collection of your very own pottery pieces. No previous experience is necessary—just come with an open mind and a willingness to get your hands dirty.  Cost per course: $ 365 - covers all materials, tools, glazes and tuition. Spaces are limited to 10.
